So, this is almost certain to cause complications as Jestan’s case goes to court.
He’s been ordered to stay more than 500 feet from Tanya. And as we’ve seen, Bethanne can be considered an accomplice, even tho she hasn’t been charged with anything yet.
A strict judge could consider an accomplice making contact with the victim of her brother’s crime to be a violation of his order, which could not only prejudice any decision, but could also come back and bite their foster parents in the ass.

“A strict judge could consider an accomplice making contact with the victim of her brother’s crime to be a violation of his order, which could not only prejudice any decision, but could also come back and bite their foster parents in the ass.” Exactly right. Same issue with allowing Talitha to stay in the same house as her victim, which would be traumatizing to Hunter. In reality this would never be allowed to happen with any type of foster home situation. “We just take the ‘fun’ out of the subject, and since they see parts all day, they aren’t as… Read more »
Do you honestly think Flora is about to discuss something so intimate with a complete stranger? As for the situation with Tanya and Benni, that was the main reason that Flora and Colin sat them down and talked to them, to try to set some boundaries and order to the subject.
I guess it’s good to start setting boundaries after kits get arrested for having full sex in public. Just like it’s good to start teaching sex education after a teenager gets pregnant. Apparently better to be reactive than proactive as a parent. Like when Colin previously walked in on Benni performing oral sex on Tanya, instead of having the reaction of “Oh excuse me, I didn’t mean to interupt while you were eating out my underage daughter, I’ll come back when you’re done”, maybe he should have stopped them like a good parent would have. Or before that, Colin could… Read more »
Both Flora and Colin have already discussed with Benni that adults and kits aren’t supposed to be get together in that way. He understands that there’s no scenario where he would be with Colin. The conversation was about the kits, so naturally they focused on the kits. It sounds to me like you’re expecting the adults to have perfect foresight and anticipate the kids’ every move. Nobody is excusing Colin’s inactions with Tanya before but he was clearly taken aback by everything that was happening, as anyone would have been in that situation and he already has a history of… Read more »
The adults wouldn’t really need perfect foresight to have anticipated what would have happened. Is it not usual for children to push boundaries? That should be something to expect in general. At one point I remember Benni was told not to engage in any sexual behaviour towards the other children, but eventually that did happen, and even when Colin and Flora found out they didn’t really put a stop to that behaviour right then so it just continued to go further until Benni and Tanya had actual sex. Expecting that sex to happen in public wouldn’t be normal, but expecting… Read more »
I don’t think it’s fair to call Colin an “inept” parent, rather he’s an overwhelmed parent who’d ben thrown into a situation that he could have never predicted and certainly didn’t ask for. Should he have stopped Benni and Tanya from doing what they did? Of course. But Colin seems to freeze up when it comes to dealing with Tanya’s sexuality; he did fine with managing the boys when he had them that one night but with Tanya, it’s like he can’t handle it. Not that that surprises me; a lot of dads are (stereotypically) weird about their daughters when… Read more »
I wouldn’t mind as much if Colin and Flora were learning as they went along, having to raise children who were sexually abused would require more unique knowledge than regular parenting and seeing them gradually learn this information would make sense. I just don’t see them being taught any additional information on how to adapt to those needs. No information is being given to them from case workers, therapists, psychologists, etc. They don’t ask other parents for general advice, and they aren’t reading books on the subject. I’m just not seeing them seeking out additional knowledge on this, but they’re… Read more »
You need to keep in mind here that in universe, it’s only been a few months since the story began, only about a week or maybe a couple of weeks since Tanya was assaulted and Benni started living with the Velouxes. The current day in comic has been going on for quite a while in real life. It’s easy to forget that because the story’s been going on for over a decade but yeah. Everything that happens in this story is gonna happen at a slow pace. Flora has, in fact, sought advice from Carmen and from her own mother… Read more »
Honestly, I think the best thing would be to cut off all contact between the two families for now. I know Beth-Anne is an innocent in this, but it really isn’t a good idea to be associating with anyone connected to the assault.
Ok, yeah, innocent isn’t the right word; she was compliant in the initial assault and kidnapping, though she was against the sexual assault and tried to tell her foster parents about it. I don’t know what he right term for her would be.
She got caught up in a snowball that was rolling down the hill.
When it was small it was not that big of an issue and with her insecurity issues she was easy to coerce into being an accomplice.

Less than a week since Tanya’s assault.
Honestly, I think the best thing would be to cut off all contact between the two families for now. I know Beth-Anne is an innocent in this, but it really isn’t a good idea to be associating with anyone connected to the assault.
Not exactly “innocent”.
Ok, yeah, innocent isn’t the right word; she was compliant in the initial assault and kidnapping, though she was against the sexual assault and tried to tell her foster parents about it. I don’t know what he right term for her would be.
The right term would be “accomplice”.
“Accessory before the fact”
“Caught between a rock and a hard place”?
She got caught up in a snowball that was rolling down the hill.
When it was small it was not that big of an issue and with her insecurity issues she was easy to coerce into being an accomplice.
